If the Kalamazoo HomeSchool Cougars were riding high off their 47-23 takedown of the Bloomingdale Cardinals back in December of 2023, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Kalamazoo HomeSchool took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of HRK. While losing is never fun, Kalamazoo HomeSchool can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 219th in Michigan, while HRK is ranked 60th in Illinois).
HRK got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chelsey Gardner out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gardner has scored at least 25% of HRK's points. Molli Ward was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Kalamazoo HomeSchool's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for HRK, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kalamazoo HomeSchool will face off against Battle Creek Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Battle Creek Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Wednesday. HRK won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Northside L at 10:30 a.m. on January 6th.
