If the Academy Owls were feeling good off their 46-25 takedown of the Urbana University Illineks last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Academy fell 43-36 to Fisher on Thursday. Academy lost against Fisher in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 61-27 score last time.
Fisher got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Melina Luyando out in front who scored 16 points along with four steals. The matchup was Luyando's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jenna Clemmons, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Fisher, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-6.
Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Decatur Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. As for Fisher, they will head out on the road to face off against Fieldcrest at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
