The Southwood Knights lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. Their rough 73-52 defeat to Northwestern might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Southwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while the Tigers are ranked 131st).
Despite the loss, Southwood had strong showings from Bryce Wilcox, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Griffin Chambers, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Wilcox is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Winer, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Southwood has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Northwestern, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwood will take on the Braves at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Northwestern, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. Whitko is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
