The Rock Academy Warriors will square off against the Calvin Christian Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Rock Academy is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Rock Academy ended up a good deal behind El Capitan and lost 60-43.
James Whitley put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. That was a full 34.9% of Rock Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Roland Balderramos, who put up 12 points.
Even though they lost, Rock Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 11.
Meanwhile, Calvin Christian humbled Orange Glen with a 64-35 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-9.
Calvin Christian's win came from a few key players Rock Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Caleb Lapka, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. He is becoming a predictor of Calvin Christian's success: when he posts at least ten boards the team is 6-3 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Noah Lampkins was another key player, going 6 for 9 to rack up 15 points and three steals.
Calvin Christian now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Rock Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-23.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Rock Academy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Calvin Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
