It's playoff time, and Manti had no trouble coming through when it counted. They took down the Morgan Trojans 42-28 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Templars sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
It was another big night for Carter Mason, who threw for 360 yards and four TDs. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last four games he's played. Isaac Crowther also helped out with an impressive 89 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Manti proved: they limited Morgan to a paltry 1.5 yards per carry. While one picked up at least two total tackles, Mason stood above the rest. He threw for 360 yards and four touchdowns. The dominant display was nothing new: Manti has now limited their opponent to fewer and fewer yards per carry in three consecutive matchups.
Manti's defense didn't let Cade Randall, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Kellen Lund and Mac Olsen, who racked up all five sacks between them. Olsen has become a key player for Manti: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one sack, but 1-3 otherwise.
Morgan lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Randall, who threw for 283 yards and one TD, and also punched in one rushing score. Kanyon Leonelli helped Randall out on the ground, rushing for 41 yards and a pair of scores.
Manti's record now sits at 9-3. As for Morgan, they moved to 10-2 with that defeat, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.
Looking ahead, Manti will square off against Cedar at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Mason and Everett Kelling. Morgan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
