The Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers will take on the Pleasant Hill Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Greenfield/Northwestern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Greenfield/Northwestern didn't have quite enough to beat East Alton-Wood River and fell 2-1. The match marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Greenfield/Northwestern got a good showing from Jaylynn Pitchford, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits Pitchford has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Greenfield/Northwestern saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kalynn Weller, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Hill gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Brown County. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ava Wombles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Wombles was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Pleasant Hill got a big performance out of Kaitlyn Borrowman, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Borrowman has posted since back in April of 2024. Ada Little was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI and one run.
Pleasant Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .794. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brown County only posted an OBP of .409.
Greenfield/Northwestern has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. Pleasant Hill's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0.
Greenfield/Northwestern might still be hurting after the 14-0 loss they got from Pleasant Hill in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Greenfield/Northwestern avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
