The Creekside Seminoles will square off against the Mays Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two weeks ago, Creekside was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 64-60 to Kendrick. While losing is never fun, the Seminoles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 486th, while the Cherokees are ranked 223rd).
Despite the defeat, Creekside saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Daylen Jones went 11 for 27 on his way to 25 points. That was a full 41.7% of Creekside's points, marking the 12th time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Caden Billingslea was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.
Even though they lost, Creekside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Mays waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They walked away with a 76-65 win over the Trojans.
Creekside better keep an eye on Germani Wilson. He was instrumental in Mays' win, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 21 boards. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 11 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Davenport Cox, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Mays is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Creekside, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Creekside has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32 boards per game. However, it's not like Mays struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Creekside suffered a grim 81-57 defeat to Mays when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Creekside was down 46-25.
