The Cathedral Prep Ramblers were the 53-48 winner over the Erie Royals when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Cathedral Prep fell 51-42 to Erie on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Cathedral Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Erie is ranked 196th).
Cathedral Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Thompson, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Nando Mirarchi, who scored 17 points.
Cathedral Prep's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-2. As for Erie, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cathedral Prep will square off against Canisius at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Canisius and Cathedral Prep are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads. As for Erie, they will head out on the road to face off against North Allegheny at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Allegheny knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Erie likes a good challenge.
