Cardinal Gibbons walked away with a 31-19 win over Boca Raton on Friday. Given Cardinal Gibbons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Boca Raton is ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cardinal Gibbons was led to victory by Michael Merdinger and Patrick Anderson jr.. Merdinger threw for 222 yards and a touchdown, while Anderson jr. rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown. Zach Thompson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Chance Routson and Damien Taylor certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Routson threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns, while Taylor picked up 167 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Cardinal Gibbons is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Boca Raton, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3.
Cardinal Gibbons will take on Stranahan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Boca Raton, they will head out on the road to face off against Lake Worth at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
