Poteau has gone 8-2 against Broken Bow recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Savages at 7:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Sam Tecla and Greydon Howell.
Poteau is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Hilldale just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 36-22 bruising from the Hornets. The Pirates were up 22-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Meanwhile, Broken Bow waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Titans 48-7. Given the Savages' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Titans are ranked 115th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Poteau better keep an eye on Jattairrius Neal. He was instrumental in Broken Bow's win, rushing for 203 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also picking up 53 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 203 rushing yards gave Neal a new career-high.
Broken Bow was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 321 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 168 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Broken Bow didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kade Pratt and Mavryk Soto. Pratt is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Jackson Porter was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making 12 total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Poteau's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Broken Bow, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Poteau has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 218.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Broken Bow struggles in that department as they've been averaging 263.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Poteau against Broken Bow when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 31-0 win. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Savages have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
