After flying high against The Academy Wildcats last Saturday, the Kent Denver Sun Devils came back down to earth. Kent Denver fell just short of Colorado Academy by a score of 50-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Kent Denver has suffered yet this season.
Kent Denver's loss on Tuesday came despite strong showings from Anya Peper and Kaylah Miller. Peper scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, while Miller scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season.
Colorado Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alex May out in front who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. May hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Naomi Wolff was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six assists and five steals.
Kent Denver's loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Colorado Academy, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.
Kent Denver won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Mary's Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully St. Mary's Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Friday. As for Colorado Academy, they will head out on the road to take on The Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Colorado Academy is ranked 46th).
