After flying high against the Decatur Eisenhower Panthers last Wednesday, the Springfield Southeast Spartans came back down to earth. Springfield Southeast took a 55-38 bruising from the Titans on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Springfield Southeast can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Titans are ranked 65th).
When it comes to explaining why Springfield Southeast lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marisa Gant. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with three steals. Gant hasn't dropped below 16 points for four straight games. Chloe Crawford was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Glenwood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alexis Neumann out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Neumann is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Makenna Yeager, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Springfield Southeast has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season. As for Glenwood, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield Southeast will take on the Generals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. MacArthur is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Glenwood, they will be playing at home against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lanphier and the Titans are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
