The Scituate Spartans will square off against the Johnston Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Scituate has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Scituate couldn't beat Cumberland on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Spartans came up short against the Clippers, falling 12-6. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Clippers: they've now lost three in a row.
Victoria Geisser made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Chatelle, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three match, Johnston brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They put the hurt on South Kingstown with a sharp 14-1 win on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Haley Boudreau made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Kalyn Foster and Alanna Colon did most of the damage at the plate: Foster went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Colon went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Foster has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Boudreau, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Johnston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Scituate's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Johnston, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.
