AAAAAA Region 7 recap October 29, 2013
Norcross extended the longest winning streak in AAAAAA Region 7 this week by beating Peachtree Ridge, 24-20. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Blue Devils.
Norcross and the Lions played the closest game in the league this week, with Norcross eventually emerging with a 24-20 victory.
Caleb Scott had a great week catching the football as North Gwinnett lost to Collins Hill. He caught 12 passes for 211 yards.
Scott was the best wideout in the league this week as the Bulldogs lost to the Eagles. Scott tallied 12 receptions for 211 yards. Nate Brown helped North Gwinnett's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 88 yards.
North Gwinnett's Hayden Sphire and Brown led AAAAAA Region 7 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Sphire has thrown for 1,820 yards this season, while Brown has 41 catches for 728 yards. Peachtree Ridge's Jordan Ellis leads the league in rushing yards with 1,061.
Going into this week's game against Mountain View, Bob Sphire's team's Sphire needs 180 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
At the moment, the Bears are in sixth, while the Bulldogs are in first.
Mountain View made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,501 from 5,182. The improvement was largely due to a 49-13 victory over Meadowcreek last week.
