The Western Albemarle Warriors will square off against the Goochland Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Western Albemarle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Western Albemarle will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Fluvanna County, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Flying Flucos on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the Warriors' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
The team relied heavily on Jillie Clark, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Ava Hardy was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Western Albemarle hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Goochland made easy work of Albemarle on Thursday and carried off a 10-4 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kyndall Shapiro and Riley McCain made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Shapiro pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, McCain tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Shapiro a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At bat, Shapiro went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while McCain went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Ryleigh Shapiro was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Alison Croker, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Western Albemarle's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Goochland, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-6.
Western Albemarle skirted past Goochland 9-8 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
