Butler (Matthews, N.C.) snapped
Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.)'s 12-game winning streak, with a 27-0 victory on Saturday.
The Bulldogs were up 14-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Riley Ferguson to
Uriah Lemay in the first quarter.
Butler expanded its lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. BHS scored two times in the third, including once on a Ferguson touchdown pass to Lemay.
Ferguson stood out for the Matthews school in the win. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs came into the game allowing 7.7 points per game. The zero points that the Mavericks ended with were well below their average of 30.8 coming into the game.
Butler got revenge for last year's 28-20 loss to Mallard Creek with the victory.
BHS (14-0) will play a playoff game against Mallard Creek next week. The Mavericks enter the contest having posted a 12-1.
