Coginchaug Regional and Hale Ray are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Noises at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Coginchaug Regional is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Coginchaug Regional took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Old Lyme by a score of 7-2.
Emily Allen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Mackenzie Bearor and Lily Montgomery did most of the damage at the plate: Bearor went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Montgomery went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Bearor a new career-high. Bella DeRenzo was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Hale Ray made easy work of Portland on Friday and carried off a 21-6 victory. The Noises might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Like Coginchaug Regional, Hale Ray also got a great game from a two-way player: Lily Jahne. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Jahne was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briella Dean, who went 2-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Albert, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Hale Ray always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .644. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portland only posted an OBP of .250.
The win made it two in a row for Hale Ray and bumps their season record up to 10-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Coginchaug Regional, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Coginchaug Regional has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hale Ray struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Coginchaug Regional might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Hale Ray in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Blue Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
