Kaden Houdek made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Avalon's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 6-9-1 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hank Howard, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kade Johnson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Avalon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .718. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leverett's Chapel only posted an OBP of .250.
The win got Avalon back to even at 9-9-1. As for Leverett's Chapel, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-8-1.
