It was a good run, but the Girard Yellowjackets unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mercyhurst Prep. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Girard came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Lakers are ranked 267th).
It was another big night for Craig Buckner, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds for Mercyhurst Prep. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Brzuz, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Girard's defeat ended a 14-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 16-2. As for Mercyhurst Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Girard will take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairview is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Mercyhurst Prep, they will be playing at home against the at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
