The North Brunswick Scorpions will face off against the Topsail Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Brunswick has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
North Brunswick is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Heide Trask with a sharp 99-73 win on Tuesday.
North Brunswick relied on the efforts of Jack Baker, who went 10 of 14 on his way to 25 points and four steals, and Kane Jenrette, who went 5 for 6 en route to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists. Jenrette is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Tyrell Simpson was another key player, going 6 for 7 en route to 12 points.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: North Brunswick was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Topsail hadn't done well against East Bladen recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Topsail came out on top against East Bladen by a score of 48-41.
Topsail's win came from a few key players North Brunswick will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rhett Britt, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Henry, who posted 12 points.
North Brunswick's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Topsail, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. North Brunswick hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 66.4 points per game. However, it's not like Topsail struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.6 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
North Brunswick was able to grind out a solid victory over Topsail when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 64-53. Does North Brunswick have another victory up their sleeve, or will Topsail turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
