The Gueydan Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Merryville Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gueydan comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Gueydan fell victim to Oberlin's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 43-0 loss at the hands of the Tigers.
Meanwhile, Merryville's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 36-14 defeat at the hands of Basile.
Despite the defeat, Merryville had strong showings from Chanler Blackmon, who rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and Jerimaya Robinson, who rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown.
The losses dropped Gueydan to 0-9 and Merryville to 2-7.
Gueydan was able to grind out a solid win over Merryville when the teams last played back in November of 2022, winning 42-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gueydan since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
