Jefferson hasn't had much luck against El Paso recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Silver Foxes will face off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
Jefferson lost 22-1 to Chapin on Wednesday.
Jefferson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabella Quinonez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Quinonez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, El Paso can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They blew past Andress 11-5.
Maria Ontiveros made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Mia Estrada was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Camila Caldera, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 18-5-1. As for El Paso, their record now sits at 7-20.
El Paso's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for El Paso, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Jefferson keep running through batters, or will the Tigers buck the trend?
Jefferson was able to grind out a solid win over El Paso when the teams last played back in March, winning 12-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Silver Foxes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
