It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Bessemer City Tigers can now relate to. They were dealt a 28-0 defeat at the hands of Spanish Fort on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 41 points in the game before, Bessemer City couldn't push the score so high this time.
Spanish Fort's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaden Shamburger, who threw for 86 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. Spanish Fort also got a significant boost from Nehemiah Hixon, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 83 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Bessemer City to a paltry 17 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Spanish Fort's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Cole Mcconathy ll.
Bessemer City now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Spanish Fort, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Bessemer City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Spanish Fort will take on Pike Road at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Pike Road is ranked 26th, while Spanish Fort is ranked 21st).
