Last Tuesday, Colorado Springs Christian came up short against Manitou Springs and fell 54-46. Colorado Springs Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Colorado Springs Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Miguel Cota-cordova, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks, and Jace Velasquez who scored 14 points. That's the first time this season that Cota-cordova posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Williams, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Salida had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They took down Manitou Springs 58-39.
Kason Westphal and Ryan Osness were among the main playmakers for Salida as the former dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds and the latter scored 17 points along with five steals. Osness hasn't dropped below 15points for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Dylan Grant, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Colorado Springs Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Salida, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Colorado Springs Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Salida struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 29.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
