The Scituate Spartans will head out to square off against the Chariho Chargers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Scituate has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Chariho will come in with four straight victories.
On Thursday, Scituate came up short against East Greenwich and fell 7-4.
Scituate saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Defusco, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Victoria Geisser was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Chariho faced Prout in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Chargers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Crusaders a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Chargers have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Adriana Jeannenot made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Erin O'Leary, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Dorgan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one triple.
Chariho always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prout only posted an OBP of .071.
Chariho pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Scituate, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Scituate suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Chariho in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
