Moscow hasn't had much luck against Coeur d'Alene recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Moscow will head out to take on Coeur d'Alene at 2:00 p.m. The last three games Moscow has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Moscow's tournament run continued when they took on Borah on Saturday. Moscow fell just short of Borah by a score of 13-12. That's two games in a row now that the Bears have lost by just one run.
Moscow got a good showing from Mason Helbling, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Tyson Izzo and Connor Isakson did some serious damage despite the final result: Izzo went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Isakson scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Isakson also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Gunnar Holloway was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Coeur d'Alene put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Lakeland get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.
Harrison Trunkey-Evans was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Dylan Suitch, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Coeur d'Alene hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland struck out seven times.
Coeur d'Alene's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Moscow, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Moscow has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coeur d'Alene struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Moscow couldn't quite get it done against Coeur d'Alene in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can Moscow avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
