Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Casey-Westfield on Saturday and snuck past 16-14. The victory was just business as usual for Greenfield/Northwestern, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Greenfield/Northwestern's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Pembrook, who threw for 255 yards and a touchdown. Nathan Nord did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 117 receiving yards.
When it comes to explaining why Casey-Westfield lost, one person who can't be blamed is Connor Sullivan. Despite the final result, he rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Sullivan has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last eight times he's played.
Greenfield/Northwestern's victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 11-0. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.22 points. As for Casey-Westfield, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2.
Greenfield/Northwestern will head out on the road to face off against Sesser-Valier/Waltonville at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sesser-Valier/Waltonville is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Casey-Westfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
