Even though the Cozad Haymakers have not done well against the Lexington Minutemen recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Cozad came out on top against Lexington by a score of 60-47. Given Cozad's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Lexington is ranked 201st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cozad to victory, but perhaps none more so than Olliver Davis, who scored 24 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Davis has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Monty Brooks-follmer, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Cozad's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Lexington, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cozad will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Holdrege at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st. After both having extra time off, Lexington and Broken Bow will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another on January 30th.
