Softball Recap: IC Catholic Prep Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for IC Catholic Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Saint Viator Lions 7-6 on Monday. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 6-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Madelynn Dinino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ariani Zito was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one double. Kelly Cahill was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

IC Catholic Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

IC Catholic Prep's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Saint Viator, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. IC Catholic Prep will venture away from home to face off against St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Saint Viator, they are taking a road trip to take on Buffalo Grove at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
