Brookville is 2-8 against Milton-Union since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Brookville Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Milton-Union Bulldogs at 6:45 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Brookville posted their closest win yet this season on Thursday. They skirted past Eaton 32-30.
Brookville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Hunter Gardner, who scored six points along with seven blocks and five rebounds, and Sara Carr, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Gardner posted two or more blocks.
Meanwhile, Milton-Union came tearing into Saturday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 43-37 W over Lehman Catholic. Given Milton-Union's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Lehman Catholic is ranked 604th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jenna Brumbaugh, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Shannon Brumbaugh was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Brookville's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. As for Milton-Union, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2.
Tuesday's game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Ashlee Haupt and Brumbaugh. Haupt has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 steals, and 1.9 assists. For her part, Brumbaugh has averaged 17.2 points, 2.9 steals, and 6.5 rebounds.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Brookville have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Milton-Union, though, as they've been averaging only 30.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
