The San Jon Coyotes's five-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They walked away with a 32-24 win over Clovis Christian. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory San Jon has managed all season.
San Jon was led to victory by Summer Jennings and Sarah Archuleta. Jennings scored seven points along with nine rebounds and four steals, while Archuleta scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. That's the first time this season that Archuleta pulled down eight or more rebounds. Alexa Bacerra was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madisyn Kruckeberg, who scored six points along with six steals. Kruckeberg has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah McKay, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.
San Jon's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Clovis Christian, they dropped their record down to 10-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Jon will take on Grady at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clovis Christian won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Amherst at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Amherst comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
