The Mater Dei Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Pinckneyville Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mater Dei is looking to tack on another W to their nine-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Last Monday, Mater Dei got the win against Belleville East by a conclusive 61-38. Given Mater Dei's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Belleville East is ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alyssa Koerkenmeier continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Butler, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Pinckneyville's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Carlyle on the road and fell 67-27. Pinckneyville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-17.
Mater Dei has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. As for Pinckneyville, their loss dropped their record down to 16-12.
Mater Dei beat Pinckneyville 37-24 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mater Dei since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
