Borden is 1-9 against West Washington since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Braves will take on the Senators at 7:00 p.m. Borden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Borden is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Lanesville.
Emma Hart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alayna Martin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Mallory Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Borden hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, West Washington never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on New Washington with a sharp 20-0 victory. Considering the Senators have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Macy Lowery was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Emma Schmidt also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
West Washington is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Borden, their record now sits at 14-5.
West Washington's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Borden has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for West Washington, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Borden keep running through batters, or will the Senators buck the trend?
