Union County and Livingston Central are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Braves will face off against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, Union County made easy work of Lyon County and carried off a 9-2 win. The Braves haven't had any issues with the Lyons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Peyton Jenkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Audrey Staley, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sydney Thomas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Livingston Central entered their tilt with Ballard Memorial on Sunday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They never let the Bombers get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. Give the Cardinals' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.
Addison Tramble made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Adalynn King was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Hadley Hargrove also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Livingston Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ballard Memorial struck out eight times.
Livingston Central pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Union County, their record now sits at 14-11.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Union County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Livingston Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Union County might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Livingston Central in their previous matchup on April 1st. Can the Braves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
