Yorkville Christian had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 15-10 to make it four. They came up short against the St. Bede Bruins, falling 13-3. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 1-0 to the Bruins when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Yorkville Christian saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Paige, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
As for St. Bede, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-4 record this season. The result was nothing new for St. Bede, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
On St. Bede's side, Ranbir Saini and Alan Spencer made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Saini tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Meanwhile, Spencer tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Saini got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Spencer went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Those four runs gave Saini a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gus Burr, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Geno Dinges, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Yorkville Christian is taking a road trip to square off against Kaneland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Knights will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. St. Bede does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
