If the Leroy Bears were riding high off their 91-20 takedown of the Fruitdale Pirates on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Leroy was outmatched by Jackson on the road and fell 70-30. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Leroy has scored all season.
Several Bears players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylor Crumedy, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals. Ray Phillips was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Leroy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson only pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.
Leading Jackson to victory were Keeyun Chapman and Micah Caster. Chapman scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five blocks, while Caster scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. The game was Caster's 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Hill, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Leroy's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-6. As for Jackson, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leroy will take on Southern Choctaw at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Southern Choctaw and Leroy are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Jackson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th. Hillcrest knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matchups -- so hopefully Jackson likes a good challenge.
