The Herscher Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Peotone Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Herscher is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Herscher came out on top against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Tigers walked away with an 11-6 win over the Falcons. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Gavin Nelson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Logan Egerton, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Jones, who went 1-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Herscher kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley only managed seven hits.
Meanwhile, Peotone hadn't done well against Beecher recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Blue Devils skirted past the Bobcats 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted since April 21st.
Josh Barta spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Peotone is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-14 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Ruben Velasco was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Herscher pushed their record up to 26-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Peotone, their record is now 9-15.
Peotone's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Herscher hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. It's a different story for Peotone, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain Herscher's hitters?
Everything went Herscher's way against Peotone when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Herscher made off with a 17-2 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
