Woodford County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Bryant, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Lexington Catholic came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Commodores.
Abby Hammond made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Lexington Catholic let Lauren Kelley and Aevea Mosley-Franklin run wild. Kelley went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Mosley-Franklin went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Kelley has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Ford, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Lexington Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
Lexington Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Woodford County, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10-1.
Woodford County's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Yellowjackets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lexington Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Woodford County continue to outrun the ball?
Woodford County might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Lexington Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
