Hickory Grove Christian is a perfect 10-0 against Concord Academy since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Hickory Grove Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Von Pelow, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Concord Academy). They came out on top against SouthLake Christian Academy by a score of 16-12 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Concord Academy considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Noah Hatley made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Hatley was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Gray Madeira was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. Concord Academy is undefeated when Madeira posts two or more runs, but 2-9 otherwise. Tripp Cantadore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Concord Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Concord Academy's record now sits at 5-9. As for Hickory Grove Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hickory Grove Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Concord Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Hickory Grove Christian's way against Concord Academy when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Hickory Grove Christian made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
