Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Birmingham's offense. They fell just short of Chatsworth by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Patriots' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Annabella Venegas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Birmingham saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Granada Hills Charter's win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Birmingham's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Granada Hills Charter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. It's a different story for Birmingham, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Granada Hills Charter's hitters?
Granada Hills Charter skirted past Birmingham 7-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
