After a string of four wins, the Autaugaville Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. The game between Autaugaville and Marbury wasn't particularly close, with Autaugaville falling 54-39. While losing is never fun, Autaugaville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while Marbury is ranked 118th).
Marbury got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nasiyah Jernigan out in front who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and six steals. Jernigan hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Gabrielle Brown was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Autaugaville's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. As for Marbury, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Autaugaville will take on Calhoun at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Marbury, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Holtville at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th.
