Aspen Alley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Makayla Merchant was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Melody Gray was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Jonesport-Beals always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .786. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Woodland posted their closest victory since June 6, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Shead 9-8. The win continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.
Jonesport-Beals pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.3 runs this season. As for Woodland, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-6.
Everything went Jonesport-Beals' way against Woodland in their previous meeting back in April, as Jonesport-Beals made off with a 12-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
