Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Cass City

Cass City extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 9-5 in the process. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Millington Cardinals a 4-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Red Hawks also won the last time the pair played back in June of 2023.

As for Millington, they moved to 5-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Millington's part, Morgan Matusik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Matusik has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Millington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Damm, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cass City will face off against Brown City at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Millington, they will square off against Lakeville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
