Taft is 6-0 against Banquete since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Taft Greyhounds will be playing at home against the Banquete Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Taft has three straight victories, Banquete has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Taft can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Hebbronville 42-20.
Taft had a senior duo take command as JJ Acosta threw for 222 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt and Enrique Rodriguez gained 179 total yards and two touchdowns. Acosta is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was David Davis, who picked up 51 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Banquete fell victim to Odem's stalwart defense last Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Owls 41-0. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.
Taft's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points per game. As for Banquete, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Everything went Taft's way against Banquete when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as Taft made off with a 29-6 victory. Will Taft repeat their success, or does Banquete have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
