On Tuesday, the James Island Trojans faced the Bluffton Bobcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. James Island took a 59-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bluffton. James Island's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, James Island still got an impressive performance from Andrea Duncan, who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Duncan also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Alaina Graf, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Tacoya Heyward was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 22 points, nine assists, and nine steals for Bluffton. Heyward is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'laina Mosley, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
James Island's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-4. As for Bluffton, their victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1.
James Island will take on Lucy Beckham at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lucy Beckham will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 68th, while James Island is ranked 20th). As for Bluffton, they will head out on the road to face off against Colleton County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Colleton County is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
