Softball Recap: Baldwin Wins Going Away Against Maui

Baldwin came out on top against Maui on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Bears blew past the Sabers 15-5. Considering the Bears have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Tariah Ortiz (T) made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ortiz (T) was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, Zirie Rivera and Shaileah Brown (Shai) did most of the damage at the plate: Rivera went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Brown (Shai) went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Rivera a new career-high. Delaney Dagupion was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Baldwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Baldwin has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Maui, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Coming up, Baldwin will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against King Kekaulike at 4:00 p.m. The Na Ali'i have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.5 runs per game on average), something the Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Maui, they will venture away from home to square off against Lahainaluna at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lunas have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.73 runs per game on average), something the Sabers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
