Casteel is a perfect 3-0 against Mesa since February of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Colts will venture away from home to square off against the Jackrabbits at 3:45 p.m. Casteel will be strutting in after a win while Mesa will be coming in after a loss.
Casteel will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Friday, then bounced right back against Cactus on Saturday. The Colts blew past the Cobras 12-1.
Lauren Fullton and Maddy Matejcek did most of the damage at the plate: Fullton went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Matejcek went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Fullton has posted since back in April of 2025. Kenley Payne was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Casteel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cactus only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, Mesa was not able to break out of their rough patch last Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 20-8 to McClintock.
Mesa saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jada Porter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two triples, and two stolen bases. Daniela Beltran also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Casteel's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Casteel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Mesa struggles in that department as they've averaged .396. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Casteel got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2025 against Mesa by a conclusive 13-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
