Roybal is 10-0 against Belmont since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Roybal Titans will look to defend their home court against the Belmont Sentinels at 4:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Roybal pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Franklin 68-62. While losing is never fun, Roybal can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 493rd, while Franklin is ranked 237th).
Despite the loss, Roybal got a solid performance out of Denzell Ingram , who scored 22 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Ingram scored a full 35.5% of Roybal's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Samuel Kunga was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Belmont struggled with assists on Wednesday (Downtown Magnets had 1400% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Belmont was outmatched by Downtown Magnets at home and fell 69-35. Belmont has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Defeat or not, Belmont got some senior leadership from Semaj Norwood who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds and Jordan Martin who scored 9 points along with 5 steals. Martin scored a full 25.7% of Belmont's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Bernstein's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Roybal's defeat dropped theirs to 3-1.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Roybal hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 72 points per game. It's a different story for Belmont, though, as they've been averaging only 37.2 per game. The only thing between Roybal and another offensive beatdown is Belmont. Will they be able to keep them contained? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Everything came up roses for Roybal against Belmont in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 82-35 victory. Will Roybal repeat their success, or does Belmont have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
