The Jefferson Raiders will venture away from home to take on the Auburn Mountainview Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jefferson has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight defeats, while Auburn Mountainview will come in with four straight victories.
Jefferson couldn't beat White River on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. The Raiders lost 18-6 to the Hornets.
Molly Burt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, while Auburn Mountainview put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Beamer. The Lions blew past the Titans 18-0. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Auburn Mountainview got a massive performance out of Brynna Erdmann, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Erdmann has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Melanie Duran, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases.
Auburn Mountainview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.
Auburn Mountainview's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jefferson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Auburn Mountainview struggles in that department as they've averaged .566. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jefferson might still be hurting after the 14-1 defeat they got from Auburn Mountainview in their previous meeting on April 2nd. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
