The Fairfield Central Griffins were the 38-27 winner over the South Aiken Thoroughbreds when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Fairfield Central took a 51-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Aiken. While losing is never fun, Fairfield Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while South Aiken is ranked 49th).
South Aiken's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sumara Williams, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Zanayia Harrison was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Fairfield Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for South Aiken, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairfield Central will take on Lower Richland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lower Richland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. As for South Aiken, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Academy of Richmond County at 6:00 p.m.
